人口知能（AI）の普及を背景に米国でホワイトカラー知識労働者（white collar knowledge worker）が受難の時代を迎えている。
10月末には米アマゾン・ドット・コムが大規模な人員削減（large-scale job cuts）を発表した。ホワイトカラー管理部門を中心にした3万人が対象であり、全体の1割に及ぶと予想されている。
2022年にも2万7000人の人員削減に踏み切っているアマゾン。アンディ・ジャシー最高経営責任者（CEO）は数ヵ月前に社員向けにメッセージを出し、「AIを全面活用せよ（use and experiment with AI whenever you can）」とげきを飛ばしている。
We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs. In the next few years,we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.（これからは少人数でも同じ仕事をできるようになるし、これまでと違う仕事も増える。向こう数年間で、全社的なAI活用で効率性を高め、全体の社員数を減らしていく。）
